Prefers well drained soil. Interesting "puzzle piece" bark. Has a distinct and pleasant odor in the heat. Unfortunately this stately native tree is susceptible to Pine beetles. Produces a lot of pollen in spring. Flammable, good heat resistance, moderate growth rate.
